How Far Would You Go?

What’s the farthest you’ve ever travelled for an event? Whether it was a destination wedding or a cheaper concert ticket in another country, some people are willing to travel hundreds of miles—depending on certain factors:

  • The Gig: Ain’t no mountain high enough to keep superfans from major concerts or sporting events. Immediate family is also likely to get on a plane to attend a wedding or other special occasion.

  • Demographics: Youngins tend to travel farther than seniors. Although, those older generations may have already done their share of caravanning to concerts.

  • Motivation: Young fans may travel for adventure and new experiences. The older you get, the more likely you’ll seek a relaxed trip.

  • Measurement: Some may consider the time it takes to reach a destination more than how far away it is.

I’ve crossed state lines and driven for hours to attend weddings. I’ve purchased plane tickets for weddings, funerals, family reunions, and to chase the Northern Lights in Iceland. I’ve stayed closer to home for concerts, sports, writing retreats, and book events. Even as I get older, I understand the drive for new experiences, but I also appreciate leisurely excursions.

Who knows what the future will bring, but if it offers opportunities to travel across the country or the world to attend events celebrating creative endeavors (by me or my peers), I know my passport will be up to date.
